Sai Sishya International School (SSIS) is established as a private school situated in Edogawa ku. The mission of SSIS is to educate students based on principle of strong teacher-student bonding. Our namesake, Sai, was a great teacher who lived in India in late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. His teachings were based on a moral code of love, devotion, contentment. Sishya, in Sanskrit, means ardent disciple.
In Japanese, combination of Sai (最- superlative or the best), Shi(師 – expert, teacher), shi (資- resources), ya (屋 – roof) stands for “The best teachers and resources under one roof.”
We are an IB PYP Candidate school. We are an accredited member of IPC – International Preschool Curriculum and TAIP – Tokyo Association of International Preschools.
The culture of a school affects the quality of teaching, the depth of learning, and the relationships we develop among educators, students, and parents. When students feel safe and connected to their teachers and peers, they are able to achieve extraordinary academic and social learning. Our Management Team
Mr. Balaji has 20 years experience working in IT services sector in different countries. Inspired by his parents contribution to society in educational field and motivated by his dream to setup an university, he is working with his wife, Ms. Ramaa, in laying a foundation for a high quality affordable international schools in Tokyo.
Ms. Ramaa is a versatile personality with a gold medal in both Bachelors (Physics) and Masters in Computer Applications, a national level junior table tennis player, a successful IT career for 11 years, an entrepreneur who established a school from scratch to 400 students in 6 years time. She has been studying different curricula and her previous school was the first to get the International preschool curriculum for Kindergarten in Japan and also a flagship school for Cambridge in Tokyo.
She believes in making high-quality international education available at an affordable price for children. She enabled Cambridge International Examinations – Head of Operations to work with her Mentor Tsuboya san, to have their recognition in japan universities.
Ms. Tsuboya Ikuko has extensive experience in the education sector including her current appointment as an education advisor for the Japanese government. She is a key figure in the growth of the International Baccalaureate (IB) in Japan. She is a member of the IB Asia Pacific Regional Council and her experience includes driving the implementation of the IB Dual Language Diploma in the Japanese national school system. She is the Chief Executive Officer of Tokyo International School, President of the Japan International Education Center and Chief Director of Tokyo’s International Secondary School. SSIS offers its gratitude to Ms. Ikuko Tsuboya, who has always been inspiring and motivating to upcoming schools.

SSIS was founded with the vision to provide a rigorous education through effective practice and good school governance. For these reasons, Ms. Ramaa and I decided to pursue IB PYP Authorization. During our quest for PYP Authorization, we saw students learning more and thinking in different and deeper ways about a variety of societal issues. Students began to think about their learning process and to develop intrinsic motivation regarding their learning.
Everyday we see students making progress in their understanding and developing their skills for current and future learning endeavors. As Head of School and PYP Coordinator, my hope is for all students at SSIS to become lifelong learners, to continue asking questions and to reflect upon their newly acquired understanding. Due to my experiences in other sectors I understand that students will need to be critical thinkers and problem solvers.
Originally from Wisconsin, USA, I have been living in Japan since 2002. I hold a BA from The American University, Washington, DC; teaching certification from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, continuing education from Charles Sturt University, Australia; Harvard Graduate School of Education, USA; and IBO workshops for PYP. I also worked in the manufacturing sector (small engines and transmissions) developing curriculum for adult education and even managed a restaurant in Tokyo. My husband and I have two sons and a cute rescue dog, named Sniffer.
I’m a consultant and a Japanese teacher. I was born in Tokyo. I have twins daughter and one more daughter. I have challenging hobbies like Archery, some sports, singing, reading a books, Rattan crafts and traveling so on. I’m happy to be able to involve with students and parents in SSIS. I have experience in jobs for accounting, labor, HR, planning for long time. I have studied nutrition in the university and have a Nutritionist license and calligraphy teacher license. I am a certified Japanese teacher for teaching foreign children.
